Greenwood Village Sedation Dentistry | Hampden Dental Loft

What is Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry uses medication to help you relax during dental procedures. It can be used from anything from teeth cleanings to complex surgeries such as wisdom teeth removal. In dentistry four types of sedation are used which include: nitrous oxide, oral sedation, IV sedation, and general anesthesia.

At Hampden Dental Loft we use three forms of sedation for dentistry. The forms we use are nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and general anesthesia.

Nitrous Oxide

This form of sedation is inhaled and known as laughing gas. It’s combined with oxygen and Dr. Cha can control the amount of sedation received depending on several factors.

Nitrous oxide is a form of minimal sedation when not much sedation is needed. Unlike stronger forms of dental sedation, you will still be able to understand your surroundings and respond to questions when on nitrous.

What is the Process for Nitrous Oxide?

You will wear a mask that covers your nose that combines nitrous oxide with oxygen. After just a few minutes, you will notice a calming effect.

After Getting Nitrous Oxide

When the procedure is complete Dr. Cha will remove the mask and the nitrous will wear off quickly. In fact, this is the only form of sedation dentistry where you will be able to drive home without needing a driver.

General Anesthesia for Dentistry

Some extensive surgical procedures are best done with general anesthesia. Don’t worry, there is no need for you to go to another office for the sedation. We work with Dr. Yancey with Mountain Dental Anesthesia. Dr. Yancey is highly is a highly skilled dental anesthesiologist that has helped many of our patients. If you require general sedation, Dr. Yancey will come to our office in Greenwood Village to administer the anesthesia.

Why use Dental Sedation at our Greenwood Village Office?

Sedation is a great way to relax during a procedure and make it more comfortable. In addition to offering nitrous, we also offer oral sedation which most Greenwood Village dental offices don’t offer. And of course if needed Dr. Yancey will administer general anesthesia. If interested in using sedation for your next dental procedure, Dr. Cha can work with you to determine which type would work best for you.
